Look at these fingers go!

The 2nd graders are working hard on their keyboarding skills. They take this very seriously! They are currently learning the home row keys and how to move their fingers from home row to type other letters. We are using a website called Dance Mat Typing. When they complete this we will move into recording their words per minute.
I am so proud of these kiddos! :)

2nd Grade Math

Math time is split into whole group, small group, and individual learning times. The students work with manipulatives, pencil and paper, computers, iPads, and a variety of games while they learn math concepts. Here the students are working through guided practice with Mrs. Wolf, Mrs. Teut, Mrs. Rowe, and myself (I left my group to snap a few pictures).

It's the doubles baby...

Doubles Rap

Shelby and Chloe are singing the Doubles Rap! Every 2nd grader brought a copy of this home last Friday. Please encourage your child to practice doubles at home using the rap, the computer, or a game. Being fluent with math facts will make it easier for the students to focus on understanding math concepts.

Landform Creations

Our 2nd graders have been learning about landforms the last few weeks. Today they used salt dough to create two landforms in their boxes. They needed to write what they knew about those two landforms before they could create them with the dough. Here are a few examples of what they made.
Camille shares about her landforms.

Gracie and Carrylee explain the landforms they created.

Landforms

Mrs. Wolf began a great landforms social studies with the class today. The students have a lot of knowledge to pull from, and they will learn so much about landforms. They also started to make a flip-book about landforms as well.

We are excited to have Mrs. Wolf in our classroom. She is a wonderful student teacher, and she has been with us since the beginning of school. She will be in our classroom until September 27. She has taught several lessons already,  and she has also co-taught with me. She will be taking over the majority of the teaching for the next three weeks. The kids will surely learn a lot from her great lesson ideas!

Mealworms, Mealworms, Mealworms

We welcomed an insect into our classroom this week. The 2nd graders will be studying about mealworms in science. Right now we are acting as scientists and recording observations about our interesting insects. We will chart their growth, development, and changes.

Brody uses a hand lens to get a better look at his mealworm.

Elli didn't hesitate to get a feel for the mealworm.

This mealworm seems to be checking out Breyana!

Deserae lets the mealworm crawl in her hand.
